Jun 25, 2015
MercaSID is a Dominican company, dedicated to offering the best products for family, home and industry. Founded in Santo Domingo in 1937 as SID – Sociedad Industrial Dominicana – a company committed to producing cooking vegetable oils, through the years it expanded its array of offerings by introducing new varieties of oils, margarine and detergents. MercaSID S.A. started off in 1999 when SID merged with large Dominican food producing company Mercalia, S.A.
Currently, the company is partnering with global market leading brands and its portfolio includes a variety of goods across several industries such as agro-industrial products, citric fruits, cattle & meat product processing, water processing, and floriculture.
As the business is continuing to grow, MercaSID has decided to launch “Plum Cake” as a new product to complement its existing range. The company has just recently bought and started up a brand new Plum Cake processing line at the end of which it has installed a state-of-the-art automatic “Plum Cake” packaging line from Schib, a Hayssen Flexible System company.
Ms Ligia Bonetti Du-Breil, President of MercaSID, and Mr Osvaldo González, Purchase Manager, have found BW Flexible Systems' Schib HFFS equipment brand to be the most reliable partner for them, in light of the brand's proven expertise in the bakery industry.
BW Flexible Systems Schib brand team members said, “We have been proud to support MercaSID with this new project in the bakery field and we are excited for the growth of their market share”.
The Schib automatic packaging line at MercaSID is capable of running up to 300 packs per minute.
It features a tilting system for the distribution of the incoming rows of products. This module, that comes complete with a product aligning system, sees to separating, aligning and distributing the Plum Cake rows that arrives from the processing line. After this station, a suitable conveying system that includes a 90° curve advance the Plum Cakes towards an electronic in-line feeder that regulates the product flow and feeds a servo driven flow wrapper. A Rockwell Allen-Bradley platform controls the entire packaging cycle.
